A leisurely flight over the alien landscape is one of the most vivid entertainments in the region. From the basket of the balloon, you can enjoy breathtaking views and get a lot of impressions for life!

Historical Heritage of Cappadocia

The history of Cappadocia spans millennia. Located in the central part of Anatolia, Cappadocia has long been a place of collision and intertwining of various civilizations and cultures.

From the earliest times, various peoples settled here, including Hittites, Phrygians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans. Cappadocia was a crossroads of trade routes and played an important role in the political and economic life of the region.

One of the most important moments in the history of Cappadocia is the formation of the Christian community in the early centuries. The first Christians fleeing persecution by the Roman Empire arrived in Cappadocia in the second century AD. Forced to hide from the Roman army, Christians built entire underground cities (monasteries) in the rocks, equipping them with storage and living spaces, churches, and temples, and thinking through ventilation and water supply.

The Byzantine era also left its historical mark in Cappadocia. Emperors fortified the region’s borders and built defensive fortresses. One of the bright examples of constructions of that time is the Uchisar Fortress, which served as an important defense during periods of wars and conflicts.

Over the centuries, Cappadocia continued to develop and transform under the influence of various empires and peoples. Today, you can explore many architectural monuments, rock churches, and monasteries here, visit archaeological museums, and, of course, enjoy the unique magnificence of nature.

Uchisar Fortress

This defensive structure is a remarkable engineering and architectural achievement. The fortress walls, carved directly into the rock, served as protection and refuge for the local population in times of danger. Uc Guzel

A distinctive symbol of Cappadocia, “Three Beauties” is a complex of three rock pillars. The rock formations resemble mushrooms with caps – these monoliths have grown and formed here for thousands of years.

Cavusin is a rock riddled with rooms carved out by ancient inhabitants centuries ago. Remarkably, the human made caves served as living quarters until the 1960s! You can walk through the “rock apartments” and enjoy breathtaking views of Cappadocia from their windows.

Tarik, our tour guide, was outstanding. He arrived at our hotel on time with his driver, and the car was spacious and perfectly clean. Throughout the day, he kept us informed and showed us all of Cappadocia’s sights. If you are short on time and want to see everything the area has to offer, I would highly recommend this tour. It’s a long day, but it’s well worth it.
